VIDEO: Take Care of Yourself

Thai useful expression that can be used in everyday conversation “take care of yourself

‘Take care’ in Thai ดูแล duu-lae

‘Oneself’ is ตัวเอง  dtua-eeng

Take care of yourself is “ดูแลตัวเอง /duu-lae dtua-eeng/

When we tell someone to do something , the particle นะ ná is added to soften our statement and make you sound friendly. The complete sentence would be “ดูแลตัวเองนะ duu-lae dtua-eeng ná”. The polite particle ครับ /krâp/ or ค่ะ /kâ/ can also be added at the end.

If you want to say something sweeter like “I will take care of you“, it is really easy!

Male speaker: ผมจะดูแลคุณเอง pŏm jà duu-lae kun eeng

Female Speaker : ชั้นจะดูแลคุณเอง chán jà duu-lae kun eeng

“จะ jà” + Verb phrase  is a future tense structure

do something + “เอง eeng” = do something by yourself

**NOTE: Be careful not to confused the use of “เอง eeng” and “ตัวเอง dtua eeng”

1. ตัวเอง dtua eeng is pronoun

Example: She doesn’t take care of herself. =  เค้าไม่ดูแลตัวเอง káo mâi duu-lae dtu-eeng

                  I am not myself now. = ผม/ชั้นไม่ใช่ตัวเองตอนนี้ pŏm/chán mâi-châi dtua-eeng dtawn-níi

2. เอง eeng is used to describe that you do something by yourself (without help)

Example: She learned English by herself (she didn’t go to a class) = เค้าเรียนภาษาอังกฤษเอง káo rian paa-săa ang-grìt eeng
I cooked this curry myself = ผม / ชั้นทำแกงนี้เอง pŏm/chán tam gaeng níi eeng
