This is one of the most asked questions from our students. The word นี่ /nîi/ and นี้ /níi/ both means “this”, but what is the difference? Watch this lesson to learn to use them correctly and speak like a native Thai. 🙂
- นี่ /nîi/ which is pronounced with falling tone is a pronoun. It is used by itself.
Example:
What is this?
นี่อะไร /nîi à-rai?/
Who is this?
นี่ใคร /nîi krai?/
What does this mean?
นี่แปลว่าอะไร /nîi bplae-wâa à-rai?/
What is this called?
นี่เรียกว่าอะไร/nîi rîak wâa à-rai?/
2. นี้ /níi/ which is pronounced with high tone is an adjective. It needs to be used with a noun. The pattern is as follows:
Noun + Classifer + นี้ níi
Example:
Whose car is it?
รถคันนี้ของใคร /rót kan níi kăwng krai/
(Whose is this car?)
What does this word mean?
คำนี้แปลว่าอะไร /kam níi bplae-wâa à-rai?/
Who is this woman?
ผู้หญิงคนนี้เป็นใคร
pûu-yĭng kon níi bpen krai

I would like to pertisepate in the group lesson lefvel 2 from 14 oktober till 13 november. I hope this is still possible.
20 years ago I lived with my wife and children for 7 years in Thailand. We all spoke and read quite good thai. I like to return to Thailand after so many years.
But my thai is quite rusted and needs upgrading. I find your lesson really great.

We just opened a new group course for Upper Beginners. This group will start in November. The schedule of the course is below:
Course Duration: 7 Nov – 6 Dec 2020
Class Duration: 2 hours per lesson for 10 lessons
Course Hours : Saturday & Sunday at 8:00 – 10:00 A.M. Thailand time (5 weeks)
