The committee of the royal institute are compiling new words, slang and expression currently in use, ostensibly for the benefit of later generations, who may be confused by the wacky slang of today’s popular media (like my mom lol). There will be more than 1,000 words published in the Dictionary of New Words edition 4 ( พจนานุกรมคำใหม่เล่ม 4)
Here are ten interesting words I picked and talked about in my video:
กากๆ /gàak-gàak/ is used to say to a person who is useless, never done something useful.
เกรียน /grian/ is used to called a person who always annoyed other people verbally.
ขนแขนแสตนอั้ป /kŏn kăen stand-ûp/ means ‘goose bumps’
จัดเต็ม /jàt dtem/
จัดหนัก /jàt nàk/
จัดใหญ่ /jàt yài/
จัดแน่น /jàt nâen/
These four words mean the same thing which is ‘do something to to the utmost’ , do something with all one’s might or capability.
แต๊งกิ้วหลาย /dtáeng-gîu lăai/ means ‘thank you very much’
เม้าธ์มอย /máo-moi/ means ‘to gossip’
โนเวย์เสตชั่น /no way sà-dtay-chân/ is the answer ‘no way!’ like in English.
มีหัวไว้คั่นหู /mee hŭa wái kân hŭu/ means ‘stupid’
Here are more interesting words:
“ชัวร์ป้าบ/chua bpâap/ means ‘absolutely sure’ , the words ชัวร์/chua/ is borrowed from English.
“ขั้นเทพ” /kân tâpe/ means ‘great, very well’, used the pattern: adjective + “ขั้นเทพ“ /kân tâpe/
or when someone is very good at doing something we give the compliment to that person that he/she is “ขั้นเทพ“ /kân tâpe/
For example;
อาหารไทยอร่อยขั้นเทพเลย /aa-hăan tai à-ròi kân tâpe leoi/ Thai food is very delicious.
ฝีมือถ่ายรูปของเค้าขั้นเทพ / fěe-mue tàai-rûup kŏrng káo kân tâpe/ His photography skill is awesome!
“งามไส้” /ngaam sâi/ is an expression used for ‘very embarrassing’
งามไส้มั้ยหล่ะ /ngaam sâi mái là?/ เค้าอยู่ประเทศไทยมา 10 ปีแล้วแต่ยังพูดภาษาไทยไม่ได้ /káo yùu bprà-tâde tai maa 10 bpii láew dtàe yang pûut paa-săa tai mâi-dâi/
Is it very embarrassing? He has been in Thailand for 10 years, but he still can’t speak Thai.
“เซียะ” /sía/ means ‘very beautiful, gorgeous’
นางแบบคนนั้นสวยเซียะ /naang-bàeb kon nán sŭai sía/ That female model is very beautiful
“เดี๊ยะ” /día/ means ‘exactly the same’
หน้าของเค้าเหมือนพี่ของเค้าเดี๊ยะ /nâa krng káo mŭean pîi kŏrng káo día/ his face looks exactly the same as his older brother.
Have you heard of these words before?

Hi Mod 🙂
Thanks for the tips. Now we can learn to speak Thai language as it is spoken by real Thai people!
ขอบคุณครับ
James
PS Sorry for the late reply, but your video arrived only yesterday.
There is a spelling mistake here: “อาหารไทยอร่อยขั้นเทพเลย”. Should be “อาหารไทอร่อยขั้นเทพเลย” I think.

You mentioned that you did not know what “kon Kean stand up” might be in English.
In English, many say “Goose bumps”. (pronounced goose like the bird)
Thanks for the videos.

Used dtáeng-gîu lăai today and got a laugh. It’s amazing how much you learn when you have someone to practice with every day.
