Sawatdee ka,
Today I had some free time to cook myself a quick lunch. I got some very good green curry from my hometown (it is Nakhon Si Thammarat in case you are wondering) so I decided to cook Green Chicken Curry. It is one of my favourite Thai food and perhaps the most popular of all Thai dishes with foreigners. It was chosen to be one of the World’s 50 most delicious foods by cnngo.com as well:)
The name “green” curry derives from the color of the dish. Thai people call it “Gang Keaw Waan” (แกงเขียวหวาน). ‘Gang แกง’ means curry; ‘keaw เขียว’ means green and ‘waan หวาน’ means sweet.
I think if you are not familiar with spicy food, and want to try something spicy but not too strong green curry is your best choice. The taste is creamy, sweet and a not too spicy as other Thai curries.
Traditionally, green curry contains coconut milk, chicken, lime leave, sweet basil, and eggplant. I don’t like eggplant so I used white gourd (ฟักเขียว) instead. I am a big fan of white gourd.
Green curry goes well with hot steamed rice, personally I think it is even better with rice noodles (ขนมจีน [ka-nom jeen]).
Have you ever try green curry before? How did you like it?
