VIDEO: Commonly Confused Thai Words

This lesson teacher Pear is talking about commonly confused Thai words ตัวเอง /dtua eeng/ and เอง /eeng/

[1] ตัวเอง /dtua-eeng/ is a PRONOUN, it means “oneself” : itself, myself, yourself, herself, himself, ourselves, themselves

Example:

1. take care of yourself = ดูแลตัวเอง /duu-lae dtua-eeng/
2. Don’t blame yourself = อย่าโทษตัวเอง /yàa tôot dtua-eeng/
3. Believe in yourself = เชื่อในตัวเอง /chûea naiver dtu-eeng/
4. Be yourself = เป็นตัวของตัวเอง /bpen dtua kăwng dtua-eeng/

[2] เอง /eeng/ is used to describe that someone does something oneself without help.

VERB/ VERB PHRASE + เอง /eeng/ 

Example:

1. I cook myself.

ผมทำอาหารเอง /pŏm tam aa-hăan eeng/ or ฉันทำอาหารเอง / chán tam aa-hăan eeng/

2. He drives to work himself.

เขาขับรถไปทำงานเอง /káo kàp rót bpai tam-gaan eeng/

3. I do housework myself.

ฉันทำงานบ้านเอง /chán tam-ngaan bâan eeng/
