Learning to pronounce Thai words correctly can be one of the hardest parts of learning Thai. One way to improve your pronunciation is to “learn to listen”. Before you learn how to speak, you will need to learn how to listen.
Some sounds can be hard to tell apart when you’re listening. If you can hear the difference, it will be easier to speak correctly.
So for this lesson I created another listening exercise for you which is based on the misunderstandings my students often make when listening to local people speak Thai.
Please let me know your scores in the comments. 🙂
Below is the answers to the exercise. DON’T READ IT BEFORE THE TEST!!

Contrary to the earlier commentor, I think your new videos have become much more professional than some of the older ones. In particular the sound quality is better, Older videos sometimes had problems with echoes or background noise making it harder to hear your pronunciation. Your videos are among the best on YouTube.

I love this video!
I have a question about No. 6. I read จะขึ้น as “will go up,” but the translation says “We’re getting on a plane.” Can you help me understand how this future-verb construction becomes the present continuous? Thanks in advance, Kru Mod!

Thanks Kru Mod
I have been learning Thai for 14 years off and on (slow learner) your videos are always great very helpful and beautifully explained, I hope one day I can speak Thai as well as you speak English.
Many thanks again Simon

Hi Kru Mod ..
I haven’t seen one of your videos in a while, but I always figured that once I retire, I will sign up for lessons with teachers from your site. Your delivery was always easy, friendly, Fun and enjoyable.
• This last video Feels and sounds like you are being coached.
• Too many exaggerated gestures and poorly placed emphasis in an un- natural sounding attempt to stress certain points.
• I feel/sense the Influence of well meaning (but unskilled) foreigners .. to me, it feels like someone is (coaching) trying to help make your presentation ‘MORE’ (of something.- not sure the intent of the changes in delivery)
Don’t forget what made you successful in the beginning.
• Your down-to-earth nature and natural delivery .. complete with occasional endearing errors delivered in a friendly, ‘not-so-edited’ style.
I miss the old Mod.
Best of Luck,
Robert

Sawatdee ka khun Robert, thank you for your points.I appreciate them. I have no coach, my website is a one-person business. I usually don’t have scripts when I film my videos, but this one I wrote a script and tried to say what I wrote to save filming time as I have very limited time for filming these days, so this may make me sound unnatural.
Aliza Earnshaw says
Kru Mod, you always sound natural and approachable, in my opinion. I love your newer videos as much as the older ones. Thank you for continuing to provide excellent self-study aids.

Hi Mod, it was interesting but confusing at sentence 5, ….. Chûea is “to believe” and it is written “name” in the video at 4’30. …
Mod says
Sawatdee ka khun Bernard, I added a note in the video that it was my editing mistake. “เชื่อ chûea” means believe.
