Sawatdee ka,
As a multi-culture city, Halloween is also celebrated here in Bangkok. I would like to share Halloween related vocabulary
Thinking of Halloween, I am firstly thinking of GHOST! ผี [pĕe] I don’t like talking about ghost at all since I am super scared [กลัว glua] of them. มดกลัวผีมากค่ะ I don’t even watch ghost movies. [หนัง năng] มดไม่ดูหนังผีค่ะ
Next word must be “party“. These days Thai people use many English terms and the word party ปาร์ตี้ [bpaa-dtêe]
is one of them, but we change “p” sound to “bp” sound and “t” sound to “dt”
Halloween cannot be without pumpkin, am I right? By the way, I love eating pumpkin so much! มดชอบกินฟักทองมากค่ะ pumpkin in Thai is ฟักทอง [fúck-tong] I know what you are thinking. It sounds like you are saying F word in English lol You just have to make it high tone:)
Skeleton costume seems to be very popular on this day as well.
[โครงกระดูก krong grà-dùuk] Skeleton. The word กระดูก [grà-dùuk] means bones.
[เสื้อผ้า sûa-pâa] costume
And lastly, I think of “cobweb”. ใยแมงมุม [yai mang-mum]
ใย [yai] means web, and แมงมุม [mang-mum] is spider.
I hope you learned some new words from this blog:)
สุขสันต์วันฮัลโลวีนค่ะ HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
MOD

Hey great info krue mod, thanks.
It’s great to have fun dressing up etc but shame that American influence is becoming so common and changing even Thai culture mid noi.
