Learn Thai from Thai ad

Sawatdee ka,

I have made a lesson from Thai ad before here and here. Now I have my new favorite Thai ad that I laugh every time I watch it.

There are only two sentences said in this ad which are:

1. หกโมงแล้ว [hòk moong láew] meaning ‘it’s 6 p.m. already’

หก [hòk] means six

โมง [moong] means o’clock

แล้ว [láew] means already

When you want to tell ‘day time’ in Thai we use the word โมง ‘moong’ and add the word เช้า [cháao]morning, บ่าย[bàai]afternoon or เย็น [yen] evening.

For example;

6 a.m. is หกโมงเช้า [hòk moong cháao]

6 p.m. is หกโมงเย็น [hòk moong yen]

* In spoken Thai the words เช้า cháao and เย็น yen are dropped, so 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. is หกโมง [hòk moong]. You understand whether it is 6 a.m. or 6 p.m. from the context of your conversation:)

3 p.m. is บ่ายสามโมง [bàai săam moong]

2. ขอโทษค่ะ [kăw-tôde kâ] meaning I’m sorry. I am sure you already know this one:)

—————————————————————————————————————–

There is another similar ad here:

There is one main expression being said  at the end of the video which is อย่าลืมออกกำลังกายทุกวันนะคะ [yàa luem òrk-gam-lang-gaai túk-wan ná ká] meaning ‘Don’t forget to exercise everyday’

อย่า [yàa]  means ‘do not’ used to make an order or a suggestion not to do something. The pattern would be อย่า [yâa]+ verb or verb phrase

ลืม [luem] means ‘forget’

ออกกำลังกาย [ òrk-gam-lang-gaai] means ‘to exercise’

ทุกวัน [túk-wan] means ‘everyday’

นะ [ná] is a particle used to soften your statement, it can be used together with the polite particle ครับ [kráp] or คะ [ká].

I hope you liked it:)
